Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Carpinteria

Carpinteria - October 3rd, 2011

A 57-year old man is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle on Via Real in front of Motel 6 Sunday night.

At 6:28 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2011, Chris Dexter Shields (DOB 1/8/54, transient), was crossing the street in the 4200 block of Via Real when he was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Herminia Mancera-Ramirez (DOB 12/9/82) of Carpinteria.

The 4200 block of Via Real was closed to all traffic for approximately six hours during the ensuing emergency call and traffic collision investigation which is being handled by the Sheriff's Major Accident Response Team (SMART). It is unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

The City of Carpinteria contracts with the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement services.
