Narcotics Detectives Arrest Vandenberg Village Couple

Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Narcotics Detectives have arrested a married couple in Vandenberg Village for growing dozens of marijuana plants on their residential property.

The investigation began on Thursday, October 13, 2011, after Sheriff’s dispatchers received a tip that the couple was involved in drug related activity at a residence in the 4000 block of Polaris Avenue in Vandenberg Village.

Sheriff’s Patrol deputies responded to the residence on Polaris Avenue and discovered evidence of an illegal indoor marijuana grow. The deputies notified the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit which then opened its own investigation.

Later that day the Narcotics detectives served a search warrant at the Polaris Avenue residence where they contacted 32-year old Jason Dean Coleman (DOB 1/9/79) and his wife, 35-year old Sunnie Dannielle Coleman (DOB 9/9/76), who were both attempting to remove the evidence from their home.

Narcotics detectives eradicated approximately 72 growing marijuana plants from the home, garage and backyard. They also seized approximately 25 pounds of processed marijuana worth an estimated street value of $50,000. In addition, Narcotics detectives seized multiple firearms and high capacity magazines.

Child Welfare Services was contacted after the discovery of drugs and the chemicals used to grow marijuana. Those items were found to be accessible to a four year old child who lives at the home, but was not present during the search warrant.

The Coleman’s were booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail early Friday, October 14, 2011, for several violations, including possession of marijuana for sale (11359 H&S), cultivation of marijuana (11358 H&S), and felony child endangerment (273a(a) PC). Jason Coleman may also face several charges as a felon in possession of weapons. Those charges have been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

Sunnie Coleman was released on her own recognizance Friday, October 14, 2011. Jason Coleman was held on $55,000 bail which he posted on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

Although the arrests took place more than one week ago, the Sheriff’s Office did not release this information until the follow up investigation was complete.
