140 Students Graduate from Sheriff's D.A.R.E. Program
Santa Ynez Valley- March 30th, 2010
140 six graders from four schools will join Sheriff Bill Brown Wednesday evening for the Sheriff’s Department’s largest D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony this year.
Created in Los Angeles in 1983, the D.A.R.E. program aims to teach young people good decision making skills to help them resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. D.A.R.E. is now implemented in 75-percent of the nation’s school districts and in more than 43 countries.
Sheriff Bill Brown reintroduced the D.A.R.E. program in Santa Barbara County schools three years ago. Since that time, more than 4,200 students in Santa Barbara County have completed the DARE program taught by the Department’s specially trained D.A.R.E. officers.
The public and media are invited to attend Wednesday’s graduation in Solvang that will feature D.A.R.E. graduates from Ballard Elementary School, Los Olivos Elementary School, Santa Ynez Elementary School, and Solvang Elementary School.
Special Guest “Retro Bill” (www.retrobill.com) will entertain the audience with his unique style of motivational speaking that has inspired children and adults around the nation.
