Sheriff's Narcotics Detectives Arrest Six

Santa Barbara- May 27th, 2010

On Friday May 28, 2010, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Narcotics Detectives assisted by the Santa Barbara Police Department conducted a search warrant at the residence of suspected drug dealers in Santa Barbara County.

After a six month long investigation, Narcotics Detectives arrested six subjects suspected of dealing and using Methamphetamine during the search warrant in the first block of Chapala St. in Santa Barbara.

Information developed during the six month long investigation led detectives to Robert Bergere (11-24-66), who was suspected of dealing large amounts of methamphetamine. A search warrant was served at Bergere’s residence on Chapala St. During the search warrant, Detectives contacted Robert Bergere, and his wife, Luana Bergere (6-5-72). Three children (ages 6-11) were also inside the residence.

During the search warrant, Robert Bergere’s brother; Kelly Bergere (1-8-68) and three additional subjects.  Brooke Pohring (4-29-81), Joe Hurtado (2-6-78) and Raelene Chavez (4-4-69) arrived shortly thereafter. All six adults were arrested for various drug offenses. Detectives seized operable scales, over 8 ½ ounces of methamphetamine (1/2 lb), 5 grams of black tar heroin, packaging materials, $1,200 in cash and other paraphernalia associated with the sales and use of narcotics.

Child Welfare Services was contacted which responded to take custody of all three children. Due to the ages of the children, no further information regarding them will be released. County Animal Control responded for two dogs on the property.

The following is a list of charges for the six suspects who were taken into custody and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail:

Robert Bergere – 11378 H&S – Sales of methamphetamine, 11350 H&S – Possession of heroin, 11550(a) H&S – Under the influence of a controlled substance, 11364 H&S – Possession of drug paraphernalia, 11366 H&S – Maintaining a dwelling for drug use/sales, 273a(b) P.C. – Child endangerment. Bail was set at $30,000.

Luana Bergere – 11378 H&S – Sales of methamphetamine, 11350 H&S – Possession of heroin, 11377 H&S – Possession of methamphetamine, 11550(a) H&S – Under the influence of a controlled substance, 11364 H&S – Possession of drug paraphernalia, 11366 H&S – Maintaining a dwelling for drug use/sales, 273a(b) P.C. – Child endangerment. Bail was set at $30,000.

Kelly Bergere: -11378 H&S – Sales of methamphetamine, 11350 H&S – Possession of heroin, 11377 H&S – Possession of methamphetamine 11550(a) H&S – Under the influence of a controlled substance, 11364 H&S – Possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $30,000.

Brooke Pohring - 11377 H&S – Possession of methamphetamine 11550(a) H&S – Under the influence of a controlled substance, 11364 H&S – Possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $10,000.

Joe Hurtado – 11550(a) H&S - Under the influence of a controlled substance. No bail was set due to a parole violation.

Raelene Chavez - 11550(a) H&S – Under the influence of a controlled substance, 273a(b) P.C. – Child endangerment. Bail was set at $30,000.
