Search for Missing Kayaker of Gaviota State Beach

Lompoc Man Last Seen on Saturday

Sheriff’s Deputies, Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue and SBC Fire have resumed the search for a Lompoc man who appears to have gone missing while kayaking off Gaviota State Beach.

32-year old Sean Daniel Fleming is believed to have parked his vehicle at Gaviota State Beach some time in the afternoon on Saturday, June 19, 2010 before taking his kayak into the ocean to go fishing. Fleming was reported missing Monday when he did not report to his job as a Vandenberg Firefighter. Friends who were aware that he had gone fishing over the weekend drove to Gaviota where they found the Fleming’s vehicle.

Following attempts to locate Fleming on Monday, SBC Fire requested the assistance of the SBSO and SB County Rescue at approximately 6:30pm. The Coast Guard was also notified. The search continued until nightfall with no sign of the missing man.

SBC Fire, SBSO and SB County Search and Rescue resumed the search of the ocean and coastline at dawn this morning (Tuesday).
