Coroner Completes Autopsy on Nojoqui Grade Found Body

Santa Barbara - July 16th, 2010

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau completed an autopsy this afternoon on the severely burned body that was discovered early Thursday morning along Highway 101 south of Buellton.

Although the autopsy was completed today, results may not be available for several days or even weeks. However, today’s examination revealed some clues that Sheriff’s Detectives are sharing with the public in the hopes that it leads to the identification of the man.

The autopsy confirmed that the man’s left hand was deformed prior to the fire. The hand is described as underdeveloped with only three digits. This may have been a deformity at birth or perhaps an accident suffered at an early age. The man also wore dentures, though it should be noted that his age is still undetermined as is his ethnicity.

Sheriff’s Detectives are continuing their investigation and are asking the public for any information that may lead to the identification of the man. Detectives believe that the unique characteristics (hand deformity and dentures) of the deceased male may help the public in recognizing and identifying the body.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to contact Sheriff’s Detectives at 805-934-6170 or the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at 805-681-4171.
