Sheriff's Detectives Search for Sexual Assault Suspect
Carpinteria - August 3rd, 2010
On Monday, August 02, 2010, at approximately 8:30 pm, a female adult was walking on a designated walk area within the park at Bailard and Carpinteria Ave. when she was approached by a male adult who was masturbating at the time. As the suspect tried to get closer to the victim, she (in fear for her safety) kicked the suspect in the groin. The suspect fled across the parking lot, but quickly turned around and again approached the victim. The victim tried to leave by walking backward, but stumbled. As the victim fell, the suspect grabbed her. Once the victim was on the ground, the suspect fled towards the cliff.
The victim immediately called 911 on her cell phone. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies set up a perimeter and called a K-9 unit to search the area. After one hour of searching, the suspect was not found, but the K-9 did located bicycle tracks along the cliff area that possibly came from the suspect as he was leaving the area, although the suspect was never seen on a bicycle. The suspect was described by the victim as an Hispanic male, in his 30’s, baby faced, thin build, 5-10, short black hair, wearing dark pants and a dark long-sleeved shirt.
This may be the same suspect who masturbated in front of a 15 year old and 12 year old girl on Saturday, July 17th, 2010, at about 9:45 pm in the 5400 block of 8th St; and who masturbated in front of a woman on Monday, July 19th, 2010, at about 9:45 pm, on Elm Ave at Juniper Place. The victim was walking alone when she heard a noise behind her. She turned to look and saw the suspect masturbating while riding a bicycle. That victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male adult, 5’2” to 5’4”, 140 pounds, black spiky hair and wearing a striped t-shirt. The suspect was last seen turning south on Yucca Lane toward 8th Street.
